Falling in love is easy, but making the marriage work takes effort.
At Cornerstone Community Services, we believe that marriage is more than just coming together as one. It takes a lot of commitment from both parties to work things out together as husband and wife. Many people spend tons of money planning for their wedding but neglect to spend time preparing for marriage. Take time to learn how you can build your marriage and keep the passion burning.
We conduct the following programmes for couples
A good marriage needs a good foundation. The best time to start marriage preparation is when you and your partner have started to think about marital commitment in your relationship. Whether you are dating, soon-to-wed or engaged, marriage preparation programmes will help you and your partner to understand issues relating to marriage and be mentally and emotionally prepared for life together as husband and wife.
The PREP® programme is a sophisticated research-based marriage enrichment programme with proven results of low rates of premarital break-up and post marital divorce. Researchers have isolated several risk factors which can determine whether a marriage will be successful or not. They have discovered that with good communication between husband and wife, it will not only avoid the need for divorce, it will also help the couple to enjoy their married life. Participants will learn how to communicate effectively using the “speaker and listener” technique and pick up some working tools for a successful marriage.
Money issue is often one of the factors cited in a marriage breakdown. It is important for couples to know how to manage their financial resources well in order to build a harmonious family life. Learn the skill of sound financial management and how to handle the monetary-related issues in your family at this workshop.
Falling in love is easy, but making the marriage work takes effort. Rachel took some time out with her husband, Jiahui to attend the “Keys to Building a Successful Marriage” Workshop, sharing her takeaways from the class.
They were surprised to see a wide range of couples who were making conscious choices to build on their marriage – from newlyweds to those who have been married for over 25 years.
Most marriages fall into conflict when they are unable to understand the way their spouse thinks and acts. The first activity that they did was a personality test, after which they split up according to their personality type to discuss its strength and weaknesses.
An illustration that stuck with Jiahui the most, which happens to summarise what the workshop meant, was one on positive and negative attributes in a person. The analogy used was that of a jar containing red (negative attributes) and blue (positive attributes) marbles, and how each person has a different proportion of each colour.
Despite that, everyone can live a fulfilling life if they make a conscious effort to exchange the red marbles for blue ones, and not succumb to their personality.
The couples were also taught the importance of spending time doing fun activities with each other, and were given time to discuss and plan practical actions to build a healthy marriage.
